Our Founder Tammy Hooper, has been working in animal rescue and advocacy for over 20 years. Over the years Tammy has had many dogs and cats join her family. She has participated in the TNR process for hundreds of community cats and has helped many families connect with their lifelong pet. Tammy has worked hard at providing much needed resources such as food and health care for pets of families who need financial support. Tammy wholeheartedly believes that helping people help the animals they love is a much needed resource and changes the lives of people in her community for the better.
An avid animal lover for many years, Marcia Simmons has committed countless hours to help make a difference in the lives of pets in need. A former board member of the Mitchell County Animal Rescue in North Carolina, Marcia has assisted in reducing the population of feral colonies of cats in and around her neighborhood for several years. Marcia is committed to creating a compassionate community for feral and domestic animals and the people who love and care about them.
Sonya Furr has always been passionate about animals, even at a young age. She became aware of how cruel humans can be to animals when she rescued her dog Daisy from abandonment by a co-worker. Her current granddog Zepp was left to die tied to a tree by his previous owners, and her dog Sophie was "dumped" by her owners and found wondering hungry and entangled in rope. Sonya has made it her mission to help and care for animals because she believes they deserve to be loved. Sonya is looking forward to retirement so that she can dedicate more time to advocating for humane treatment for animals and to help reduce animal over population.
Kimberly Waters has been rescuing feral and stray cats for 18 years. The process began while living in Myrtle Beach and seeing the high number of unaltered pets that people would abandon when they moved, and the havoc it caused in the community – both human and feline. She and her husband, Kevin, learned how to TNR on their own with very little resources. Kimberly is a firm believer that everyone is capable of making a difference in the homeless/feral pet population, and she is proud to be a part of this organization to help educate and teach others. Kimberly has a particular love for feral cats and is the proud cat mom of multiple “former ferals” that are now living a glorious “house cat” lifestyle.
During her many years of rescuing animals, working in TNR, and volunteering with other organizations, our Founder, Tammy Hooper, experienced many road blocks when she happened upon animal needs she had not yet experienced. Finding information about what to do, where to go, who to ask, etc. was very difficult. She realized very quickly that most local animal advocacy organizations offer some information for people who want to help animals, but very few offer it all. Tammy also realized that there are a lot of people who want to help within their own communities in small ways and big ways, but do not know how. This prompted Tammy to begin putting together a free resource of information for community members so that they can be resourceful at helping themselves help animals in their community without having to be dependent on already over taxed animal rescue organizations. Our website is growing everyday with more and more information for our community. Please be sure to visit us frequently to see what new information we have added. If you are a rescue, volunteer, animal service provider, or pet owner who has information you would like to share on the site please send us an email. We wholeheartedly believe our community has plenty of people who want to help reduce animal overpopulation if they only knew how.
Our mission at Fighting for Fluffy and Fido is to improve the lives of humans, dogs, and cats and reduce animal over population through education, accountability and advocacy. We believe when we help animals in need we are providing an invaluable service to humans who love animals.
